Moon Phases of August 2023

Updated: Sep 1, 2023

Full Moon

August 1: Aquarius Super Full Moon occurs at 11:32 am PDT

August 30: Pisces Super Blue Full Moon occurs at 6:36 pm PDT

With two full moons in the month of August, it's going to be a time of releasing, clearing, detoxing, and letting go of anything that no longer serves our highest purpose. By the time we reach the end of the month, we may find ourselves in some empty spaces.

Keep in mind that during the month of August, there will be six major cosmic players in retrograde, with Venus and Mercury being the strongest ones in retrograde. What does this mean? With this much retrograde energy, you may find yourself more sluggish than normal. It might feel like you're moving in circles, or going back over things you thought you'd already dealt with. Be mindful that your patience may wear thin during this time. When there are this many planets in retrograde it's actually in our best interest to move slower than usual and with deliberate intention. Don't be in any rush this month, and do your best to 'go with the flow'. This seemingly passive state may seem powerless, but in fact, it's empowering, and this is even more so with retrograde energies.

August also carries a few power-packed days: the Lionsgate 88 portal on August 8, the Venus Star Point on August 13, and the Sun and Regulus on August 21-23. With these events and their high vibrational energies, we're likely to feel more energized and uplifted at these times. To learn more about these events I suggest following these reputable astrologers:

While the energy of the month of August is intense, the super full moon in Aquarius on August 1 brings a more gentle, guiding energy, revealing everything that is no longer in alignment with our highest self and well-being. Allow yourself to soak up the healing energy of this full moon. Aquarius is an air sign so emotions centered around the head may be high; it's important to avoid mental clutter and work on bringing more balance into our lives. Be prepared to feel strong healing vibrations when it comes to matters of the heart. With Venus in retrograde, this heart-healing energy will be amplified so you may feel extra sensitive and emotional as the full moon approaches and peaks.

Consider journaling throughout these cosmic events as what comes up with the first Full Moon may only be part of the story, with more to be revealed during the New Moon and the second Full Moon on August 30.

The Super Blue Moon in Pisces on August 30 is a rare occurrence and brings another round of softer, and more sensitive energies. This Pisces full moon has a dreamy quality to it making it hard to think logically and much easier to get swept up in our emotions. Be mindful of not letting your emotions overwhelm you during this time. This particular full moon has a strong purge energy, so you may find yourself being guided to release and let go of even more of what's no longer in your highest and best interest.

Here are a few tips for navigating this month's cosmic events:

  • Meditate and journal.

  • Allow what needs to come to the surface to rise, let it out, and let it go.

  • Maintain a slower pace coupled with intentional action this month.

  • Stay connected to your intuition and follow the messages and nudges you receive.

  • If you feel the need to rest, rest! Spend time alone or in nature to replenish.

  • Work on staying grounded.

New Moon

August 16: Leo New Moon occurs at 2:38 am PDT

The new moon in Leo will continue to activate the Venus retrograde energies. Venus retrograde will be revealing to us where we may be lacking in self-worth and where we may not be loving ourselves enough. The themes of this New Moon center around romance, creative expression, and leadership. With this new moon, we are being given the chance to make changes regarding how we want to show up in the world, especially in matters of the heart. This is going to be an important point in the month because we are going to be able to do things over, wipe the slate clean, and start again.
