From My Sacred Shelf: Following What You're Naturally Drawn To
Trusting Your Intuition, One Crystal at a Time
"Our intuition often recognizes what our hearts need long before our minds understand why."
🌿 Why It's On My Shelf This Month
As I've been moving through July's theme of The Art of Anchoring, I've found myself reaching for certain crystals more often than others.
What's interesting is that I rarely choose a crystal by first asking, "Which one is supposed to help me with this?"
Instead, I allow myself to be drawn toward it.
Sometimes it's a particular color that catches my attention. Other times it's the shape, the feeling of holding it in my hand, or simply an inner knowing that quietly says, "This one."
I've learned not to question those moments too much.
Over the years, I've discovered that my intuition often knows exactly what I'm needing before my mind has had a chance to understand why.
Just as I allow myself to be drawn toward a particular oracle deck, I approach crystals in very much the same way.
For me, choosing a crystal has become another practice in listening.
✨ More Than Crystal Properties
One of the questions I'm asked most often is,
"How do I know which crystal I should choose?"
My answer usually surprises people.
I tell them to begin by noticing which crystal they're naturally drawn to.
Not because crystal properties aren't valuable—they absolutely can be. Learning about crystals can deepen your appreciation for them and offer beautiful insights into their traditional symbolism.
But I've also found that many people become so focused on choosing the "right" crystal that they stop listening to themselves.
In my own life, some of the most meaningful crystal companions found me before I knew anything about their traditional properties.
I'd simply feel drawn to one, bring it home, and only later discover the qualities it was commonly associated with. More often than not, I would smile because those qualities reflected exactly what I had been moving through at the time.
Experiences like these have strengthened my trust in intuition far more than they have strengthened my memorization of crystal meanings.
💜 What This Practice Has Taught Me
Perhaps the greatest lesson crystals have offered me isn't about the crystals themselves.
It's about learning to trust what naturally draws my attention.
Whether I'm standing in a crystal shop surrounded by dozens of beautiful stones or choosing from the crystals already in my home, I let curiosity lead the way.
If several pieces of the same crystal catch my eye, I'll pick them up one by one.
I'll hold them quietly.
Sometimes one simply feels like it belongs in my hand.
That's the one I choose.
People sometimes worry that they need to know everything about a crystal before bringing it home.
I don't believe that's true.
In fact, I often encourage my clients to reverse that process.
Allow yourself to choose first.
Learn second.
There's a beautiful freedom in letting your intuition have a voice before your intellect begins searching for explanations.
Over the years, I've also come to believe that crystals are far more than a list of properties printed in a book.
Those traditional meanings are wonderful places to begin, but they don't define every possible relationship someone may have with a crystal.
For example, if you're holding a crystal that isn't traditionally known for grounding, yet every time you carry it you feel calmer, more present, and more connected to yourself, then that crystal has become a grounding companion for you.
That experience is real.
Your relationship with that crystal is real.
Trust it.
Our spiritual practices are deeply personal, and our relationships with these beautiful companions naturally evolve over time.
🌿 Companions, Not Solutions
One of the ways I think about crystals is as companions and allies.
I don't expect them to do the work for me.
I don't hand over my healing to them.
Instead, I invite them to walk alongside me.
They become part of my meditation practice.
My journaling practice.
My visualization.
My energy healing.
My quiet moments of reflection.
I wear crystal jewelry nearly every day, and there are crystals throughout my home, including beside my bed.
Not because I believe they somehow replace my own effort, but because they gently remind me of the intentions I'm cultivating and the person I'm becoming.
Healing has always been a relationship.
The crystals simply accompany me along the way.
✨ Crystal Companions for July
As we've explored The Art of Anchoring together this month, you may find yourself naturally drawn toward certain crystals.
Perhaps it's...
Smoky Quartz, inviting you to feel more grounded and present.
Moonstone, encouraging you to deepen your relationship with the rhythms of the Moon and your own inner wisdom.
Rose Quartz, gently reminding you to meet yourself with compassion and care.
Or Labradorite, supporting your intuition and encouraging you to trust the quiet voice within.
Rather than asking yourself,
"Which crystal should I choose?"
Perhaps ask,
"Which crystal am I naturally being drawn toward today?"
The answer may surprise you.
🌱 A Few Questions to Sit With
The next time you spend a few quiet moments with your crystals, consider asking yourself:
Which crystal am I naturally drawn toward today?
What first caught my attention about it?
How do I feel when I hold it?
What quality might this crystal be inviting me to cultivate?
What is my intuition trying to show me before my mind begins searching for answers?
There is no need to rush toward certainty.
Sometimes curiosity is the most beautiful place to begin.
🌿 A Gentle Invitation
The next time you visit your crystal collection—or perhaps wander through a favorite crystal shop—see if you can let go of the need to choose the "right" crystal.
Instead, simply notice.
Walk slowly.
Be curious.
Allow yourself to pause when something catches your eye.
Hold it in your hand.
Take a slow breath.
Notice how you feel.
You don't have to know its name.
You don't have to memorize its properties.
You don't even have to understand why you're drawn to it.
Simply begin by trusting that quiet pull.
You can always learn about the crystal later.
Sometimes the most meaningful part of the experience isn't discovering what the crystal is known for.
It's discovering that you were willing to trust yourself enough to choose it.
